I am a self confessed beauty snob. Part due to the marketing and the ‘science bits’ behind luxury products and part of me just being spoiled for choice, i tend to turn my nose to more affordable brands convincing myself that they are just not good enough if the price tag isn’t €€€. How foolish! Yes there are cheaper products that aren’t up to scratch, but again that happens with luxury ones too.
What changed my mind? Catrice. All it took was a new Catrice stand near my job, one of the girls to try a couple of things on her lunch break and then boost about it to all our friends. We all made a bee line in McCabes and left with a couple products.
My choices: the Eye Brow Pencil, the Concealer Palette and the Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner.
Catrice Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
The moment i get outside, my eyes start to water making all my good blending and defining work in vain. Sometimes people even ask me if im all right. Because i cant leave the house without my ‘trademark’ eyeliner flick, i kept looking for decent ones that would stay on: the Eyeko Pen was good, Lancome Artliner/ Loreal Carbon Black were easy to use but would wear off when tearing, whilst the Lancome 24H Liner would just crack off in flakes of pigment and was a pain to remove.
The Catrice Waterproof Eyeliner is sent from heaven and the best i’ve ever tried: super black, easy to use, doesn’t smudge and is a dream to remove. Where have you been all my life? All for just under €4. You need it!
Catrice Brow Pencil
In a bid of saving money, i picked one of the Catrice Eye Brow Pencil to try out until i can afford another Mac Lingering. I love the shade – Ash Brown, warm red tones don’t suit my skin and tend to clash with my hair. Texture wise is a semi hard, not too soft so it would smudge, yet not too hard that would be difficult to apply. A dream! The little brush is great too, i like it that much that it replaced my Laura Mercier one.
Catrice Concealer Palette
My attention was instantly drawn to the concealer palette – my under eye dark circles are just ridiculous so i need as much help i can get. Im still in love with my Maybelline The Eraser and keep it in my bag for nose touch ups on the go. I mainly used two of the corrective shades: the bright orange to counteract violet hues under my eyes and the medium shade of concealer. The orange shade is amazing at neutralizing any darkness, i used to use orange/brick shade lipstick in the past when things were desperate, so im delighted to have a proper corrector. For blending i don’t use a normal brush, the texture would cake, instead the RT blender sponge does the job seamlessly and makes the concealer last all day without creasing.
Can you believe i only spent €10 for all these gems? Im hooked now, please tell me what other Catrice products i need to check out?
