J’adore Dior! Dior Nude Skin Glowing Makeup and Powder

Posted : 15th May 2013

Dior Nude Foundation and Powder IMG_7700

A few weeks ago i had the chance to get a sample of the Dior Nude foundation, after being intrigued by all the awards and praises received lately. I was skeptical, i was told before it wont suit my oily-combination skin and that will be too light coverage for my liking. Oh boy, it was so further out of the truth.

Dior Nude is the best foundation i have ever tried in my life so far! Paired with the loose Nude Skin Powder, creates the most flawless glowing skin i have ever had. My sample (shade 030 if you are wondering) lasted about a week of daily use and without fail, every day somebody complimented my skin. I was simply glowing and it was in a good way.

Rich in water, this foundation simply glides to the skin and somehow manages to last the daily eight working hours. I use a flat foundation brush for application, but when on a hurry i used my fingers with the same success.

The loose mineral powder is magnificent as well, using the buffing brush i simply work it into the skin for a truly flawless airbrushed effect. Apparently it has a gel technology that helps to glide into the skin whilst looking natural. The compact is great for on the go touch-ups and its best to use a kabuki type/buffing brush for perfect results.

The only downside to my Dior discovery is the price: €54 for the refillable compact powder and €45 for the foundation. A bit steep for daily 9 to 5, but for special occasions definitely give it a whirl.

Unfortunately for my bank account, i simply must have now the Amber Lights highlighter and their new coral Bird of Paradise limited edition cheek palette. See for yourself here, how can you say no to that?!

Clarins Splendours Summer Bronzing Compact

Clarins Splendours Summer Bronzing Palette IMG_7682 IMG_7686 IMG_7688

I always tend to get excited about the Clarins Summer Collections, they bring out the most beautiful makeup to complement a tanned, gorgeous skin. Like the Estee Lauder Bronzed Goddess perfume, the Clarins Splendours literally screams summer holiday and its a totally must have!

After seeing preview teasers online on some of my must read blogs and constantly harassing the Clarins counter with a release date, i finally got my hands on the most coveted item: the Splendours Bronzer. And with a discount too, in Clerys. Score!

For €39/£30 you get a rather large matte bronzer, prettily decorated with Aztec motifs which blend harmoniously shades of tan beige with terracotta, centered by a shimmery golden heart. I almost don’t want to touch it, almost…

I was on the look out of a matte bronzer, suitable for a light contouring and that would look pretty in pictures and the Splendours didn’t disappoint one bit. Ultra soft and pigmented, applies like a dream creating a flawless ‘sun touched’ skin.

Definitely a collectors item, will you be investing? See the rest of the collection here.

MAC Fashion Sets: Ablaze Lipstick & Pencil

Mac Ablaze Lipstick and Lip Pencil IMG_7478 IMG_7480 IMG_7506

Can you believe that Ablaze is my first Mac lipstick ever?! Still don’t know how ive missed out on this, but hey better later than never.

Since ive seen pictures and swatches on some of my favorite blogs (Fluffandfrippers and VivaAdonis), i knew i have to have Ablaze in my life. From the Fashion Sets collection, Ablaze is the bright matte coral with a strong pink undertone. In pictures it looks more orange than it really is in reality, Ablaze is a beauty that must be seen in real life to be fully appreciated.

Despite the matte finish, it feels comfortable on the lips and manages to stay on without drying out. And i can finally get what everyone was saying about the scent, its delicious! Definitely entered dangerous territory here, knowing me i will have to get them all… Have Morange, Lady Danger, Russian Red on my list not to mention that ill be probably getting the entire Orange collection when it comes out in July.

Who knew that ill become such a red person, this girl is all grown up.

Out with the old, In with the new.

Happy New Year! Hope 2013 has found you all happy, healthy and safe, ready for new adventures.

The New Year celebration has always been special for me, not only because its near my birthday (3rd of Jan) but mainly because it gives me the opportunity to reflect on what ive learned in the past year, draw conclusions and make room for change. Hence it triggers de-cluttering of the house and personal stuff, goal settings and positive resolutions.

Which brings me to one of my biggest wishes since i was a little girl: to have my dream dressing table and a whole room to myself where i can be surrounded by all the beautiful things i need in my life. Shallow as it might sound, i have this hunger for beautiful spaces and material things and for me (and my fiancee) its very important to live in a nice, cosy home. Because we have been renting all our adult life, we avoided gathering too many pieces of furniture or house decorations as we would end up moving anyway.

This birthday though Ony surprised me and got me my fairytale dressing table and helped arranging my girly room. Honestly, i am the luckiest girl alive! Its still a work in progress, but i couldn’t be happier of how my room turned up.

Favorite Peachy Blushers

Posted : 18th June 2012

What else would match my coral lips and nails, than a peachy blush? Well i use the term peach loosely as these babies are blatantly coral blushers. Yes, the obsession continues bwahaha ha ha!

Here are some of my most favorite ones from my collection:

No 7 Cream Blush developed by Lisa Eldrige, The Body Shop Cheek and Lips Dome in Coral – love the dome as a base for powder blusher

Benefit Coralista, Sleek Rose Gold

Lancome Blush Subtil in no. 20, The Balm Hot Mama

They are all shimmery coral goodness that will brighten your complexion and suit every single skin tone. Adore every single one of them and constantly rotate between them all year round. My most, most favorite one though is Sleek Rose Gold, every single time i wear it somebody will compliment my glowing cheeks.

And this my friends, ends the coral trilogy :) .

Battle of the primers

Posted : 18th October 2011

I’ve accumulated a few priming products in my collection, i use them both for my kit (makeovers) or for my personal use. Being an oily type gal, need to use a primer under my foundation to keep the shine away as much as possible.

The line up:

From left to right: Shu Uemura UV Under Base Mousse, Lancome La Base, Mac Prep and Prime Spf 15, Smashbox Photo Finish Spf 15, Smashbox Photo Finish Light, Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correction in Blend, Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correction (old packaging), Smashbox Photo Finish Color Adjust, Shiseido Smoothing Veil, Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch.

Before showing you the textures and giving you mini reviews about them, i want to tell you a bit about the whole primer philosophy. I’m aware that all the beauty aficionados and beauty bloggers are going to roll their eyes, but dealing with ladies on the counter, most of them are not fully clear about what a primer does.

A Primer is a smoothing silicone based (most of the times) gel or lotion that is used under your foundation, to fill all the little pores and fine lines so when you apply your foundation everything will appear smoother.

  1. What im asked about 90% of the time is if a primer can be used alone, without foundation. The answer is No, because it will not do anything for you in any way. See it as a filler or a film, you have your little lines or pores, this will fill them up so when you apply your foundation or tinted moisturiser, it will be a smooth surface. If you don’t apply anything on top, your appearance will not be changed in any way. I tend to joke and call primers, Photoshop in a bottle.
  2. A primer does not act as a moisturiser. Yes when applied, your skin will feel super velvety but that’s just the silicon film. Some of the primers are more moisturising then other (Laura Mercier, the new Smashbox Hydrating Primer) but will not double up as a anti-age or hydrating treatment.

Shu Uemura UV Under Base Mousse SPF 30

Ive been eying this cult product since Shu Uemura set foot in Brown Thomas! It is very different to the gel primers I’m used to, it comes in a slightly tinted mousse (the shade is beige) and it has a whooping high Spf 30.  You have to be careful when pumping the product not to get too much out, literally an olive size of product is more then sufficient for the entire face and eyes. The skin tone its improved, the foundation lasts longer and goes smoother and it doubles up as a sun factor too.

Ideal for oily-combination skin, not great on dry types.

Mac Prep and Prime

Prep and Prime its a lotion type primer with light reflecting properties. It doesn’t have any shimmer or glitter in it, just tiny, tiny particles that reflect the light for a dewy, radiant complexion. Raging to be honest that i didn’t get the Spf 50 one, wasn’t aware of its existence. Its not as slippery as a gel type primer, works excellent on a dry skin.

Lancome La Base

La Base is the classical gel primer, that gives an instant velvety feeling to your skin. To be honest i find the formulation and result to be identical with the Smashbox PhotoFinish, only at a cheeper price (La Base is €30 and Smashbox is €35). The formula its quite heavy, in the sense that you need a pea size amount for the whole face. Works on all skin types.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primers

Im a massive fan of Smashbox Cosmetics, love their primers, shadows, lipsticks…everything! Smashbox is my Mac if you wish :) .

Photo Finish UVA/UVB Spf 15 – doubles up as a primer and a sun factor, if your day time foundation or moisturiser doesnt have one. Smart!

Photo Finish Light – for sensitive complexions and very oily textures, its a lighter formulation (doh!) that doesn’t block up the pores or irritates.

Photo Finish Color Correcting different colors: Blend (salmon shade to even out skin tone), Green (against redness or rosaceea), Purple (for dull complexions, instant brightening effect).

Shiseido Smoothing Veil and Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch

Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch – this is my primer to go for a mature, dry skin. Its best to be used with your fingers, working it into the skin. Here’s a little test that you can do in the shop, to see for yourself the power of this type of primer: take a pea size of product and apply it on the interior of one of your palms, working it in the lines. Then compare. Comment bellow if you are amazed or not.

Lancome has a very similar alternative out in two shades (fair porcelain and sallow skin), it primes and evens out skin tone.

Shiseido Smoothing Veil – feels more like a light moisturiser rather then a priming product. It evens out the skin tone, brightens and smooths the skin surface. Ideal for fair, dry complexions.

Which primers do you use?

My Nail Polish Collection

Posted : 20th August 2011

Before i go any further, must warn you that’s this is a tiny collection and you will not find many high end names in it. I love looking at all the pretty colors in shops, but i know myself i would only stick to my staple red or coral on my fingers.

Because my manicure is rather awful looking these days, ive decided to motivate myself to take better care of my hands. It seems im doing such a good job on my face, neglecting the rest.

I usually paint my nails at night before bed, which of course turn into a major failure. By morning, i have streaky ruined looking hands and i have to take everything down. Patience is a virtue and i don’t have when it comes to watching polish dry.
