Saving Face with La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5

*No makeup and cream mustache. Im quite a catch, surprised the postman didnt ring.*

Last week i have been a coughy, snotty and feverish mess that spouted germs everywhere she went. Ladies and gentlemen, i was that person in the public transport, who cant stop sneezing and has tissue stuck to her nose and makes you run for the hills. I suppose it serves me right for looking after himself last weekend, when he brought the plague into our home.

When i have a cold, you can see it straight away: the area between my nose and mouth is bright red, flaky and dryer than the dessert. It also stings, so i cant soothe it with anything containing perfume because it will make me cry.

Thankfully, i always have some of the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume* in our medicine cabinet for any skin emergencies. This product is a good sent! It instantly calms and heals the irritated skin, while reducing the redness.

When i had my fall a while ago and had my face covered in bruises and scratches, this was the only product that i could apply that helped heal my skin without any scaring. And it was quite bad. I would apply layers upon layers, like a mask a couple of times a day and pray for healing. It worked marvelous! I was left with no visible marks and i believe it has speed up the recovery time.

It also helps with any burns, cuts, nappy rashers, eczema, sunburn etc. or new scaring as it will heal and speed up the cell regeneration in the tissue. A must have product for any household!

At Home Pampering with Origins

Posted : 17th May 2013

Origins Face MasksOrigins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask

This is how a normal middle week day off looks for me: i do a bit of cleaning, organize my blog posts and then i have a pampering session. I find it very relaxing to be home alone, do my bits and indulge in any beauty rituals i might fancy. Of course i can do all this when himself is at home, its just more fun when i have some ‘me’ time’. Love you babe!

I start my weekly pampering with a hot long bath to open the pores, then exfoliate and smooth out every bit of my face and body, getting ready for the face masks. I invested in some Origins face masks after being bombarded with positive reviews everywhere i looked. VivaAdonis im looking at you.

Firstly, i would apply the Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal mask to draw every impurity out and detoxify my skin. Ain’t i pretty as a picture? You can see now why i prefer to do all this in private. Leaves my face smooth and detoxed, a dream for a oily combination girl.

After i take it off using a little luffa sponge (get them in The Body Shop), i proceed to spray my face with a thermal spray (currently using La Roche Posay) to calm and soothe the skin. Pat dry with a tissue, if you let it dry on the skin it actually dehydrates due to the salt content.

Next is the Origins No Puffery Eye Mask to help reduce my dark circles and refresh that whole area up. I keep it in the fridge for extra coolness, labeled clearly ‘do not eat’ for you know…safety. I generally let it soak in and let it in until the next day, i only remove it after 15min when i slap it on in the morning for quick wake me up fix.

Finally i finish my day, sporting the Origins Drink Up Intensive Mask for a maximum hydration boost. I leave it over night in the hope i will wake up with smooth, plump skin. I might be using this mask even 2-3 times a week, depending how windy or dehydrating my day was.

Glass of wine in my hand, im ready for the next working day!

Clarins Splendours Summer Bronzing Compact

Clarins Splendours Summer Bronzing Palette IMG_7682 IMG_7686 IMG_7688

I always tend to get excited about the Clarins Summer Collections, they bring out the most beautiful makeup to complement a tanned, gorgeous skin. Like the Estee Lauder Bronzed Goddess perfume, the Clarins Splendours literally screams summer holiday and its a totally must have!

After seeing preview teasers online on some of my must read blogs and constantly harassing the Clarins counter with a release date, i finally got my hands on the most coveted item: the Splendours Bronzer. And with a discount too, in Clerys. Score!

For €39/£30 you get a rather large matte bronzer, prettily decorated with Aztec motifs which blend harmoniously shades of tan beige with terracotta, centered by a shimmery golden heart. I almost don’t want to touch it, almost…

I was on the look out of a matte bronzer, suitable for a light contouring and that would look pretty in pictures and the Splendours didn’t disappoint one bit. Ultra soft and pigmented, applies like a dream creating a flawless ‘sun touched’ skin.

Definitely a collectors item, will you be investing? See the rest of the collection here.

Cleansing Routine ft. Vichy, La Roche Posay and Clinique

Cleansing Routine YourBeauty IMG_7394

I truly enjoy coming home and taking my makeup off straight away, there’s no better feeling than taking off a face full of slap and feeling like your skin is breathing again.

Because any skincare routine starts with a perfectly clean skin, ive learned that ‘double cleansing’ works best for me. Which for me basically means taking off my makeup with a milk/balm cleanser and following up with a water based cleanser (Clarisonic optional) to thoroughly purify the skin. I must stress that my skin is on the oily combination side, so it enjoys a squeaky clean feeling.

If im feeling lazy, im using the Vichy 3in1 Milk cleanser as it removes eye makeup, lips and face in one go. Me and this cleanser have been going steady for the last few years, i generally have a tube on the go for holidays and late night shenanigans.

Since ive had my little accident, i needed to invest in a fragrance free, sensitive skin cleanser so the Clinique Take The Day off turned out to be perfect to clean my bruised face. I also got the balm version, because i was piling on the makeup for maximum coverage it was a pain to remove without pulling and rubbing the skin. Which for me, it meant pain and tears. The balm was an absolute god sent, rubbed a little bit on the skin so it transforms into an oil and then massaged gently to break off all the makeup. Followed up with a hot watered muslin cloth, all it will be removed in seconds!

For my eyes ive turned to the Vichy Waterproof Eye Makeup remover, nothing works best for my eyes than a bi-phase oil in water type of cleanser. As i generally go quite heavy on the eyes, i need something strong to remove it all.

In the shower, i finish off with the La Roche Posay Foaming Water*, sometimes using the Clarisonic to absolutely remove any traces of cleansers. This foaming water is so gentle and light, that is an absolute pleasure to use. Its not stripping at all, leaves the skin comfortable and radiant.

Lastly, in the morning time i gently prepare the skin for the day with a light sweep of Vichy Cleansing Water. I don’t like to over wash my face in the morning, but i still need to freshen up a bit. Meant for ultra sensitive skins, i find it very soothing and fresh.

Are you a fan of double cleansing? Or is just me and my OCD.

The Skincare Post: Radiant, smooth looking skin

Posted : 8th April 2013

Radiant, smooth looking skin IMG_7374

With summer holidays and events fast approaching, ive jazzed up my night skincare and treatments to help me obtain a glowing, smooth looking skin.

One of the first changes in my routine for the past months is the Clarisonic brush. I use it at night, after previously removing my makeup, for a more in depth cleansing. I have these pesky little pores on my nose that can get clogged with my daily dose of makeup. Im not using it every day, more like 3 times a week it just works better like that for me. As a cleanser, im using at the moment the La Roche Posay Foaming Mousse (review to follow).

After reading glorious reviews about the Alpha H Liquid Gold, ive decided to invest in a bottle. It is a glycolic peel, its meant to renew the skin and boost up the radiance. Im using it every other day, sometimes only 2 times a week if i don’t remember. You just apply it on a cotton pad and sweep away on a cleansed skin, avoiding the eye area. I find it great for re-texturizing the skin and polish off all the little imperfections. Definitely recommend.

If im not using the Liquid Gold, im reaching for the Clinique Turnaround Concentrate and Radiance Night Moisturiser. These products work on the same lines as the Liquid Gold, they renew the skin revealing a brighter, smoother looking complexion. The difference in my skin is unbelievable, it feels and looks so much softer and radiant.

For my weekly pamper, im using two masks one after another: first i exfoliate and polish with the Nuxe Thermo-Active Mask to refine the skin and then i moisturise and boost radiance with the Payot Reveil Eclat Mask, an energizing face mask to erase all signs of fatigue. The Payot mask is great as a pick-me-up booster before a night out/event as it instantly gives you a boost of radiance.

I must also stress that im using a high SPF during the day, in the lines of 35-50 as the glycolic peel and skin renewal products may leave the skin more vulnerable in the UVA/UVB rays. You don’t want to get radiance and sun spots at the same time.

Empties #2

Empties YourBeauty.ie

1. Lancome Galateis Douceur for face and eyes – sadly i don’t think ill repurchase this cleanser after almost 5 years of use. I dont know what happened with the formula or with my skin, but every time i used the milk, my skin reacted by stinging and becoming red. Maybe i have become intolerant due too to much use?

2. Clarins Toning Lotion Alcohol Free – beautiful soft toner with amazing scent, enjoyed using it morning and evening. Might give a go next to their cleansing waters, have my eye on the mint extract one. Definitely recommend.

3. La Roche Posay Kerium Gentle Daily Shampoo – this is the boy’s shampoo, but i tend to use it from time to time too. Very gentle, suitable for sensitive scalps and daily use, its a staple in our bathroom for years.

4. Vichy Purete Thermale Cleansing Mousse – another staple for my shower, this mousse has fruit acids that will improve radiance and gently exfoliate the skin. Works beautifully with the Clarisonic too.

5. Pureology AntiFade Hair Mask – because i have so many hair treatments on the go, i only managed now to finish this off. Free from sulphates and other nasties, left my hair soft and nourished. Loved that it had a thicker texture, similar to a butter, so i didn’t waste too much product on the drain.

6. Lancome Absolue Precious Cells Eye Cream – targeted against lifestyle aging (environment, diet, stress etc), this eye cream came in handy this winter to moisturise my under eye area. Quite pricey for an eye cream, it lasted me about 4 months of daily nightly use. I would recommend it too anyone with an aging concern.

7. Lancome Genifique day cream (sample size) – im currently using up all my sample pots , i have so many and its a good way to try new products. My only complaint about the cream is that there is no SPF so extra protection is needed (foundation or separate SPF). Wont repurchase, but might give the night version a try.

8. Lancome Hypnose Precious Cells Mascara – due to my alopecia areata, im loosing my lashes along with my hair. Bummer. This mascara promises to help promote growth and nourish the lashes in just 28 days. Have noticed a minor improvement and i like the defined volume it gives so ill probably repurchase.

Winter Skincare Routine

Winter Skincare Routine

Although my skin is usually on the oily/combination side, during winter it seems to dehydrate and get dryer than a dried out prune. It needs just a few days of cold temperatures, wind and blasting central heating and it becomes an irritated, red mess. My scalp becomes really sensitive too, while my hair becomes flatter than pancake. Charming.

I’m compelled to change up and switch my skincare routine after each season, targeting a richer night time ritual during winter and a high sun factor focus during summer months.

Ive swapped my regular cleanser and toner for an oil based cleanser: im utterly in love with the Shu Uemura Balancing Cleansing oil, with only a few drops massaged onto dry skin you can see all daytime makeup melt off in seconds. With a Liz Earle hot muslin cloth i take all the dirt away, leaving me with a clean, supple and hydrated skin. Instead of toner, i spritz a refreshing spray of La Roche Posay Thermal Water* – rich in minerals and antioxidants (selenium), soothes my skin without stripping.

Whilst the skin is still damp, its time for a facial oil: this winter ive been going back and forth between the Clarins Lotus Oil and Decleor Ylang Ylang. Both are suitable for oily combination skin, so they will regulate the skin oil production while hydrate and nourish. I tend to massage it thoroughly with upwards movements to destress my features. I lock the moisturise with the Vichy Aqualia Balm, a very gentle and nourishing balm, rich in thermal water and with soothing and anti-redness properties. It may seem that its a lot, but i assure you that in the morning you will be having a smooth, hydrated and nourished skin.

If im extra dry or particularly irritated, i layer a generous amount of Lancome Nutrix to regenerate and nourish. The royal jelly content, makes this thick cream ideal for healing minor irritations and blemishes.

Once or twice a week i will apply a hydrating gel mask, like the Lancome Hydra Intense Gel Mask. Its like a bath for the skin! With its gel texture, rich in water it manages in just 10 minutes to lock in moisture and plump up the skin. Fine lines be gone!

Are you changing your skincare routine depending the season?

Vichy Idealia Cream and Serum

Posted : 3rd October 2012

Ideal skin is no longer just a dream.

After 5 years of research and 2 patents, the Vichy laboratories came up with a new skincare line to restore radiance, smooth out skin texture and fade away pigmentation spots.

The serum targets the pigmentation spots and perfects the complexion, while the moisturizer will smooth out the skin texture, add radiance and have an overall anti-aging effect.

From the first application of the cream, i knew it was love. The scent is so fresh and uplifting due to the kombucha tea extract and the texture is a dream. Looks like a cream but once applied onto the skin, melts like an elixir (I got the normal-combination texture).

I used both products, serum and cream for the last two months and a half, once a day at evening time. I didn’t use it in the morning for the simple fact it doesn’t contain SPF and the testing was due during summer time.

The moisturiser is definitely the star of the range: i genuinely seen an improvement in skin texture – my complexion appeared smooth, radiant and soft. Because of the melt-in texture only a tiny bit is necessary for an application.

The Idealia Pro serum was nice to use too, its just that i haven’t seen any lighting effects on the few freckles i have. I know is not a super-duper bleaching cream, but still i was waiting to see a tiny bit of difference. Nevertheless, it left my skin soft and moisturised, with a healthy glow.

The range is available now in selected pharmacies and i do recommend it to everyone who feels their complexion is suffering from fatigue and is getting a dull appearance.

Idealia Smoothing and Illuminating Cream €26. Idealia Pro Serum €34.50.

Holiday Essentials: Skincare, Haircare and Fragrance

Posted : 20th August 2012

The last episode of my holiday series, im sure i bored you to death already but this is helping me overcome the summer blues.  So please indulge me and don’t judge to harsh :) .

For my skincare bits i resorted to my stash of minis and went for light, hydrating textures that moisturise and preserve my tan. The cleansing routine remained the same, ive been loyal for years to my Lancome essentials. They are gentle, light and keep my skin fresh.

Ive been pleasantly surprised by the Clarins Hydraquench mask, it added an injection of moisture after a hot lazy day. I topped it with Clarins Hydraquench Gel morning and evening.

On the opposite part, I wanst too impressed with the Decleor cleansing mousse, felt drying on the skin, didn’t foam and resented the scent. Im glad it was only a sample, i couldn’t bear using the whole lot.

For my recently ombre again hair, ive used the sun range from Kerastase shampoo and conditioner, the James Brown treatment and the Shu Uemura Camelia Hair Oil. Amazing products, kept my hair in top shape and help prevent the breakage.

My evenings were lightly perfumed with the fragranced water Blu Mediterraneo Mandorlo di Sicilia, im obsessed with the light yet distinctive scent of sweet almonds. Seemed so appropriate for hot summers abroad and got me many compliments.

As for deodorant, went for non-scented aluminum free one to let my skin detox and breath. Ive been so good for the last week and tried to detox my system with natural foods, minimum of products and plenty of antioxidants. Feel and look like a new woman!

Do you minimize your routine during summer holidays? Any healthy tips? xo

What you’ll find in my beach bag: Vichy, Nivea, Garnier, Avene, Kerastase

Posted : 17th August 2012

I’m the living proof that one can get a perfect golden tan using mainly SPF 50 and SPF 30. I never go lower than 30, don’t want to spend loads of money and years fixing skin damage for just a few careless moments.

The stars were by far the Nivea Protect and Bronze SPF 30 – it turned me in a bronzed Egyptian goddess in just an afternoon, as it speeds the melanin production in the skin without neglecting the high protection and the Garnier Ambre Soleil Invisible Spray SPF 30. It does exactly what it says on the bottle: non greasy, truly invisible (so no more white girl comments from the resort staff) and very waterproof. A joy to use.

The Vichy Spf 50 fluid left my skin moisturised and shine free, while the Capital Soleil 50 body looked after my shoulders when i was in the sea. With products as good as these and from all budget ranges, there are no excuses for pink lobsters on the beach.

As a hint, im always buying my sun creams in the autumn at the end of season when they are half price in the shops.

My hair was successfully protected with a shimmery dry oil from Kerastase, it kept my hair lovely and soft and prevented further drying from the chlorine and sea salt. In conjunction with the Detangler it kept every strand in place.

The Avene SPF 50 compact did wonders for my vanity – it gave me a natural flawless skin while offering maximum protection. Who says you cant have good skin on the beach? The Avene stick came in handy too – used it on my lips, moles and sensitive places.

As for pool reading ive enjoyed “Before i go to sleep” by S.J. Watson, “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins and… Fifty Shades Of Grey” trilogy. Every single woman on the beach was reading it, suppose some delicious guilty fun book is aloud on a holiday, don’t you think?

Oh and ive become absolutely obsessed with “Fringe” (TV Show)! Highly recommend it.
