Baby and Body 6 Months Update | Sophia Alexandra

Sophia Opris I have been meaning to do regular updates on Sophia’s development and mine since the begging, but somehow time flew and i found myself with a six month old baby. It still feels like i just had Sophia, yet weirdly like she was with us our whole lifes.

Because im one of them people who frantically google baby development posts, just to reassure myself that i haven’t ‘broke’ my baby and shes on chart with everybody else, i’ve decided to insert some snippets of Sophia’s development and hopefully reassure some other mums. If you aren’t that interested in baby stuff i apologies profusely, this IS mainly a beauty and fashion blog but as my life progresses so will my blog.

Ok, so how is Sophia doing?

She’s great, thanks for asking.

We have started weaning her with food when she was about 20 weeks old, because i bottle fed her it was the recommended transition for us. She has taken food so well, that just after three weeks we were having three meals a day and just 2-3 bottles of milk. To begin with we gave her a mixture of store bought pouches – she loved Annabelle Karmel ones (find them in Lidl) and Ella’s Organic Pouches (get them in Boots) and home made purees. The reason we gave her some store pouches is that i couldn’t get the texture smooth enough in all the puree combinations and she would gag which resulted in eating only a tiny bit. Also the pouches were (and still are) great for going out and about.

Now shes 6 months old and for the last three weeks shes been eating only home cooked meals. We make at least three different types of purees on a Sunday and freeze them for the week and steam some fruit for the morning porridge. Breakfast is always the same – porridge with pureed fruit and for the 4pm snack she’ll always have an organic plain yogurt. For the main meals we try to give her weekley a variety of meats – fish (salmon or cod), beef and chicken mixed with root vegetables, potatoes and anything else that’s in season. So far she loved absolutely everything (well, not that keen on bananas but LOVES avocado. Hipster baby) so its very satisfying to see her enjoy her food.

She has become an amazing night sleeper since she was three months old. The first three months were a nightmare for all of us, but after that passed she settled to her routine – 7pm on the dot she has to be in clean pj, in her cot with her doddie on hand. She would sleep uninterrupted until 7-8 am, when she would wake up to have a bottle and then drift off for another 40 minutes. What worked for us was routine, we started putting her down at the same time each evening, making the room cool and dark and eliminating all noises. My husband has the duty of putting her to sleep so he would be next to her cot, reassuring her she ok if she would trow a fuss. Now a days she is so used to the routine that it takes a maximum of 10 minutes to make her fall asleep. May it long last!

She rolls everywhere, i cant just leave her in the room on the mat and pick something up from another room. This is the reason we got rid of the changing table too, she would roll and wiggle so much that i would be afraid she would fall over. She can also stand on all fours, loves tummy time and crawls backwards.

Shes very chatty and has quite the temperament if things are not going her way. We are talking to her in both Romanian and English, so god knows what her first word will be. She definitely knows her name is Sophia when called or when we are talking about her.

Blowing raspberries are her favorite and getting her face wiped clean is her least favorite.

No teeth yet, just drooling and chewing on everything in sight.

LOVES water and gets us soaked each time we bath her. Hates being moisturized and kicks quite a fuss when i put her body cream on – she had eczema since birth so i need to make sure she’s greased up at all times. Avene worked best for us and ill make a separate post on her cosmetics.

Weight and size wise shes quite petite, very proportionate for her size and puts on weight and grows steadily each week. She just not chart wise 100% yet, so that worried me a lot for a while. But again me and my husband are hobbit sized, we are both 5ft3 so we could hardly had a massive baby. For that reason she still fits in under six month clothes, unless they are bought from Zara. Their stuff is tiny! I love getting her clothes from Next, H&M, Penneys and Zara, when we are not going anywhere i keep her in comfy baby grows and dress her up only if we are going outside.

Irish Beauty Blog I still have about 12lbs to lose to go back to my pre pregnancy body and these suckers just wont budge. I managed to lose 4lbs since this photo was taken so im definitely in the right direction, but by God this is hard. I was always a petite slim person by nature, eating everything and getting away with it so it was hard to get used to my new body shape. Im not going to lie, seeing the size of my arms in these pictures motivated me to get stricter with my diet and to cook healthy meals for myself, instead of having takeaways and sweet treats. MyFitness Pal was a revelation, not to count macros but just to see how rich my meals were becoming, considering that my life has become so sedentary.

After the pregnancy i was also left with quite a severe diastasis rectis (abdominal muscle separation) and a very weak pelvic floor, so im restricted in the type of physical activity i can do. I have started physiotherapy for it and i can see a definite improvement, im practicing every day the Pilates exercises given and i can see my tummy getting closer to its initial shape. According to my therapist 100% of women have some sort of separation after pregnancy, some worse than others so its worth to check out your abdomen to see whats going on.

Irish Mummy Blogger Hair and skin are fine, i lost initially a bit of hair but im using a couple of supplements that helped minimize and stop the hair loss. I still have no lashes or brows left, but that’s something to do with my thyroid function so im still hoping that once my hormonal levels calm down, ill see some re-growth.

All in all my body is getting there, i keep telling myself that if it took nine months to grow a baby, it will take nine months to deflate to my original size. I do get down when i see yummy mommies online who are back in their size 6 skinny jeans just five days after having a baby, but thats life and everybody is just so different.

Thank you if you made it trough the end, i know its a lot! My next post will be on newborn and baby essentials, i feel that there are so many expensive gadgets out there that promise the world, but in fact you will use them for 2 months and then they are straight on Adverts. One thing i pride myself, i was quite wise on the things i needed to buy for Sophia. Now clothes wise, that’s another story!

What a cutie! Sophia looks like her mum 🙂 It is good that she has a sleeping routine, otherwise I can’t imagine waking up every hour at night to make her sleep, lucky you! Also using two language is good, at least they will be used to it. I can’t imagine mine, baby will have to get used to three language (turkish, german and english), poor kid 🙂 Some people can easily lose their pregnancy weight but usually it takes awhile so don’t worry about it. You’re doing great 🙂 Do supplements work with the hair loss?

I found Viviscal and Perfectil great for my post pregnancy hair loss, it has started at about 3 months post partum and now another 3 months later i have no problem with it and i can see loads of baby hairs. Worth to try, i started taking them straight after i had the baby so maybe the key is not to wait for the hair to fall out to start.
