We are still very new at this toddler entertainment business, im always asking around for ideas for family day outs that aren’t very expensive and are outdoorsy. We love walks and to be outside, weather permitting of course, so the idea of visiting a pet farm with Sophia was very appealing.
The Kildare Farm is just ten minutes away from the Kildare Outlet, in Rathmuck, Co. Kildare (just 5 minutes drive from exit 13 off the M7 ). We just used Google Maps to find it and our trip was fairly straightforward.
From the get go i loved the atmosphere, despite going on a Tuesday afternoon, the place was buzzing with parents and children. Sophia loves interacting with other kids so was great seeing her making friends. We settled for lunch first, the restaurant is very roomy and airy, with plenty of space and natural light. We got the steak sandwiches and a soup for Sophia, which totaled to €27 and i know Mags recently had a gorgeous afternoon tea there for only €8. Also the entrance to the farm is free, which is great.
For entertainment there are of course the animals, which you can feed with little seed buckets bought from the farm shop (€1 a bucket), there is a nice 1.2km walk that gives you a tour of the farm. The pavement is great for buggies if your small one is not ready to walk yet. There is also a kids train that does the tour, we choose not to go on it as Sophia loves walking and running so much and hates being confined in one place. For older kids ive noticed a Mini Golf section too.
We spent about 2 hours on the farm and we didn’t even feel them going, it was our first time on a pet farm so naturally didn’t really know what to expect. From a toddler point a view, Sophia loved it! Ive never seen her happier! She took the pet feeding very seriously and made sure she stopped to every single chicken or camel to give them their share.
We will be back!
I’ve only been once but it is a lovely place for a day out! Great post ??xx
