Skinceuticals Skincare Review

An Introduction to Skinceuticals Skincare

SkinCeuticals is an American brand developed by Dr Sheldon Pinnell back in 1997. His main area of expertise, research and work has been skin cancer and skin aging. Dr Pinnell implemented his finds into the brand and SkinCeuticals has become one of the pioneer of cosmeceuticals on the market. Introducing early on active ingredients like retinol, vitamin C and antioxidants to the mass consumer.

Often mentioned in dermatologists cabinets, facialist or medi spas, SkinCeuticals has become a highly regarded and established brand with a cult following behind it.

 Correct, Prevent and Protect

I got to try some of the bestselling SkinCeuticals products for the last three weeks. I think i can give a proper review of how im getting on so far.

After explaining my skins concerns and goals (aging and pigmentation), i got prescribed four key products from the range.

The C E Ferulic Serum. This award winning serum is one of the top antioxidant products from SkinCeuticals. Ideal to prevent and repair all signs of aging, this formula combines a high concentration of L-ascorbic acid with ferulic acid and alpha-tocopherol to boost the skin’s protection against sun damage up to 8x greater than normal skin. Ideal to prevent damages from oxidative stress, this antioxidant powerful serum should be used everyday to boost collagen synthesis, attenuate wrinkles and fade hyper pigmentation.

The Hydrating B5 Gel with Hyaluronic Acid. A skincare booster that hydrates and repairs the skin.

The Refining Night Cream with 0.3% Retinol. This is an anti-aging cream with 0.3% retinol, the maximum concentration allowed in the EU.

The Brightening UV Defense SPF 30. Protection and correction that targets uneven skin tone and pigmentation.

The SkinCeuticals Skincare Protocol

In terms of what goes with what and application protocol, this is how i was advised to use the products.

AM – C E Ferulic Serum + Brigthening UV Defense SPF 30.

PM- Refining Night Cream with 0.3% Retinol (twice a week)

Anytime – Hydrating B5 Gel for a hydration boost.

I could tell straight away from the first applications that this skincare is potent. My skin has begun to quickly transform and refine. In just two weeks the results were spectacular, my tone improved and lines diminished.

The strongest from the line up is definitely the Refining Night Cream with Retinol. My skin is quite resilient, on the oily side and used to Retinol. Well, after just two applications of the Refining Night Cream i finally experienced the peeling/ dusting of the skin. Dusting is term for when the skin starts shedding off the dead cells, starts flaking and looks dry. This is a common side effect of retinol use, the skin starts to get an accelerated cell turnover and the dead cell shedding gets more obvious. As the tolerance towards retinol gets stronger, this side effect will be diminished.

I alternated hydrating and soothing night masks with the retinol and avoided further exfoliation. In just three weeks, i can already notice a dramatic reduction in my fine lines and wrinkles. Also, a lovely surprise was how efficient it was on the couple of stubborn milia i had around my eye. The seemed to be shrinked considerably.

The C E Ferulic Serum worked brilliantly in the mornings to brighten my skin and fight oxidative damage. My skin is noticeable brighter and the texture refined. I love using the UV Defense underneath my makeup, it feels lightweight and leaves my skin prepped for foundation.

I used the Hydrating B5 Gel most days to balance the effects of retinol use. Its a multi-molecular hyaluronic acid combined to B5 that instantly plumps up the skin. I loved it morning and evening, combined with other skincare products.
