Your baby is as big as an eggplant. His/hers brain and hearing are more developed this week and he is beginning to recognize your voice. Baby length 11.38 inches, weights 1.10 lb.
Things have been really busy lately – in the last six months we managed to get pregnant, apply for a mortgage and go sale agree on the apartment of our dreams, while facing new exciting challenges in work. All great and positive things and im not complaining one bit, its just that im starting to feel guilty of not treasuring any of the pregnancy months more. I always thought that i will be doing all the fun cliche stuff like taking a picture every week to measure progress, go mad on baby clothes shopping and have some sort of a plan for the nursery in mind. Yet ive done nothing, only this week ive started looking up pushchairs (im considering this one from Smyths) and cots – im very tempted by the Chicco Next To Me one from Littlewoods.ie.
How far along: 23 weeks.
Due date: 11th of January.
My bump: My bump is properly round and firm now, i seem to be carrying low to my bladder’s despair. I tend to get a very tired day once a week when i assume the baby gets a growth spur and i notice the changes over night. Clothes wise i haven’t bought much, i was lucky to inherit a lot of my friends maternity clothes and only needed a couple of jeans and vests. The bulk of shopping happened in the pyjama department – upgraded all my night wear to a fleece, Large sized, elasticated band heaven.
Weight Changes: For the first four months i only gained 5 pounds (2.3kg), patting myself on the back how great i am. Now im sitting on a 15 lb. total weight gain (7kg), sky rocketing from a pre weight of 9st 6lb (60 kg) to 10st 8lb. (67kg). Its weird, i still fit in my clothes and while i noticed my bottom and hips getting slightly bigger – it didn’t felt out of ordinary. Until i stepped on the scales and had a freak out. Better find a local Slimming World group.
Stretch Marks: None yet! Im still using my Mama Bee oil and tummy rub that i got from GorgeousShop.com and they seem to be doing the job well so far. Read my post here.
Cravings: I don’t have any major cravings, i still want all the sweet stuff. For the first two months i only eat watermelon and oranges and couldn’t even look at meat. Now im eating a bit of everything, shoot me i even had the odd goat cheese (pasteurized kind) sandwich or salad. What i really craved this summer was a glass of prosecco after a rough day or an ice cold beer on the balcony. Im not even a big drinker, so not sure where this is coming from!
Sleep: I can sleep for days in my fort of pillows, i have my moments when i go to bed at 8pm and get up the next day at 7am. Once i find a comfortable position im not moving for the night. On a normal night, I tend to go to bed early 9.30 – 10pm and be up at 6am without even needing an alarm.
Symptoms: Im very fortunate in this department, i seem to have only the best beauty pregnancy symptoms so far. My hair is growing fast, thicker and bouncier than ever and my skin has never felt and looked better. That pregnancy glow its real! On the flip side, i seem to get frequent migraines and daily leg cramps. Its so frustrating not being able to just pop a tablet to get rid of the pain, paracetamol can do only so much.
Gender: We wanted to find out what we are having, but our baby had other plans. When we went to our 21 week scan, the baby had the legs crossed all the way. I even started to jump and poke (mother of the year award) and nothing! Im convinced we are having a baby boy, although im excited at the thought of a little girl too. Roll on January!
Movement: Thankfully is constant. Although i cant notice anything from the outside yet, i get gentle pokes and bubbles on a daily basis. Lovely and freaky at the same time, ill be honest sometimes i feel im in an Alien movie.
Looking forward to: Move in our new place! Im having everything crossed that it will be sometimes in October, so i can go full nesting mode and start organizing properly the nursery and just settle.
