Are you looking for the best sunscreen for summer?
Are you looking for the best sunscreen for summer? Fear not, i have a great roundup of lightweight and effective SPFs that you could wear underneath your makeup all day long!
You already know that you have to wear sunscreen everyday in order to prevent premature aging and skin cancer. However, the reality is that this skincare step we don’t necessarily enjoy and therefore more than often skip.
Sunscreens have this reputation of being sticky, heavy, white and greasy. So i’ve taken it upon myself to show you and review some of the best sunscreen products that will rock your summer. These are tried and tested products trough out the years, i personally try not to go out without a UVA/UVB protection and i do my best to incorporate it in my routine. If during winter i can get away with the light SPF 15 or 20 that is in whatever day cream im using, during summer i make the conscious choice of adding an extra layer of sunblock. Its the best thing against anti aging and pigmentation that i could use, so i might as well do it.
To understand better my choices, my skin is oily combination with open pores and sensitive eyes. Which means im always gravitating towards light, fluid, oil free textures that can be easily layered on top of my moisturizer. However every single product im recommending below comes in a dry combination formula too, which means its richer and creamy – go for cream formulas, instead of fluid if your skin has dry tendencies. Also, sunscreen is always the last step before your makeup, because its an actual block your moisturizer wont be able to penetrate the skin if its applied on top of the SPF.
Best Face Sunscreen Products for Summer
Clinique Even Better SPF 50 – a tinted, oil free mineral sunscreen that leaves the skin shine free and fights against pigmentation. The beige tint means that it blends with your skin tone without leaving behind any white cast. Lightweight, i loved using it underneath my foundation. Its a mineral formulation so you need to give it a good shake before each application. The compact packaging makes it perfect for traveling. The small bottle packs 30ml of product which means you get 30 days of application. 1ml=1 application.
Kiehls Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 – a very well deserved hyped product among bloggers, the Kiehls Ultra Light is a wonderful sunscreen for under the makeup. Its lightweight texture makes it seamless underneath your base whilst still giving you a very effective protection. When launched, Kiehls used the phrase ‘it prevents 90% of sun damage occurring’ very encouraging to say the least. Once applied, it feels like you are slathering a cooling hydrating moisturizer. It then just settles down to a dry, satin finish. I think the best description would be – you don’t even feel you are wearing SPF.
La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra Light SPF 50 – the gold standard sunscreen if your skin is sensitive and reactive. When i used to work in a pharmacy, the most dermatologist prescriptions came for the La Roche Posay sunscreen. Quite affordable and easily available in most pharmacies. I love the Ultra Light texture that sets dry on the skin. You can find hydrating cream formulas in the range if your skin is more on the dry side. There is even a tinted version that can replace your foundation.

Bioderma Hydrabio Moisturising Spray SPF 30 – last summer i was so obsessed with this product, so much so i went trough 3 cans of it! The perfect handbag SPF, so you wont get stuck when you are lunching al fresco. Lightweight, refreshing and its fantastic on top of your makeup as a final setting spray. I used it on my face, neck, decolletage, arms… you name it! If its exposed, it got sprayed.
Bioderma Photoderm Max SPF 50 – i am a huge fan of french pharmacy products, which means i aim to try as many products from the french brands as possible. The Bioderma Photoderm Max range hasn’t disappointed. Its another fluid sunscreen that sets completely dry on the skin and keeps your face shine free. Make sure you wear foundation on top or it can leave a white cast on your skin. However, As a foundation primer however its absolutely fantastic!
La Roche Posay Anthelios Dermo Kids SPF 50 – this is the only SPF i used on Sophia so far and it worked brilliantly. The La Roche Posay Dermo Kids SPF50 is the most popular SPF among all my mommy friends. They all swear on it for their little ones sensitive skins! It doesn’t irritate the skin or the eyes, its waterproof and protected efficiently Sophia’s skin. I would 100% go for the La Roche Posay range for kids.
