Mascaras that i regret buying

Oh yes, we all been there. Seen the beautiful model in the promotional add, forget to read the small print “lash inserts added” and rushed to buy the wonderful mascara. Yes, every time when a new mascara is out i have to have it. I’m mad into volume and length for my lashes, it brightens my eyes in a second and makes a huge difference overall.

Anyway, this morning i was doing my makeup and when it was time for the mascara part, i realized i have a bunch of them hardly used in a corner of my makeup press. Before i`ll bin them, i will write a short review about them and tell what i didn’t like.

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Dramatic Look

Max Factor 2000 calorie Mascara

I wanted to try this “cult” mascara for a long time, so when it was on offer 3 for 2 in Boots i picked it up along with other bits from the collection.

The claim “volumising mascara for 300% more volume. smudge proof”. The brush looked OK, very similar to the Loreal Volumising one so i had high hopes for it, but when applied it did nothing, nada, niente! I like full volume, dramatic even if you like and this just gave me a hint of color and definition, an extremely natural look even after 2-3 coats. I don’t know if it was old stock or not, but the texture of it was extremely drying. Definitely not going to purchase again.

L`oreal Volume Collagene

Loreal Volume Collagene

The claim: “Extra Volume Mascara, with collagene. Instant impact brush”. The only instant impact was with my upper and lower lids, as i smudged it all over the place. The brush is just to big! I tried to use it several times, but i just got black all over or if i was extremely careful, i could only manage a slight hint of mascara. So i guess no Eva Longoria lashes for me!

L`oreal Voluminous Carbon Black

Loreal Voluminos Carbon Black

Sacre bleu! Not the Voluminos one! Oh yes, indeed. I love the original Voluminos Mascara (purple packaging), it gives  volume, length, the whole shebang. So when i noticed it can be bought in the carbon black version, i said to myself its gonna be even better, right? Wrong. It is clumpy, drying and just useless. And i haven’t stoped at just one mascara, i bought it for about 3 times along the year, giving it the benefit of the doubt (was thinking it was a bad batch or something).  It seems i will be sticking with the original formula.

Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara

I really don’t get whats the fuss about it. Has the same brush like the Max Factor 2000 calorie, just over sized and it does nothing when it comes to volume or length. Whats with this whole over sized brush thing people? Bigger its not necessarily better when it comes to make-up. Anyway, i digress. So when I applied it (2-3 coats) i could barely notice it and the formula seemed a bit drying to.

Do you have any regrets when it comes to mascaras or different experiences with them? Feel free to comment ;).

I actually love Hypnose Drama, even though I totally agree with you that it gets clumpy really fast…For me, I regret buying Maybelline Lash Stiletto..It didn’t do anything for me..It was too clumpy and the pigment looked rather chalky…:) Btw, I love your blog

The original forumula for Voluminos comes in a purple tube, the carbon black in a black tube. The original one gives a nice volume and i like the brush, but it can be clumpy sometimes. I suppose we cant win 🙂

Everyone loves Dior Show, and yes I was a big fan too, but that was until I met YSL False Lash Effect – oh my gosh, it’s amazing. Lengthening and thickening without clumping. Worth every cent. Def in my hall of fame.
