Tried and Tested: Eye Primers from Urban Decay, Clinique and Benefit

Eye Primers Urban Decay, Clinique and Benefit IMG_9250 Urban Decay Primer Potion | Clinique All About Shadow Primer | Benefit Stay Don’t Stray.

Don’t know about you, but I for one cant live without an eyeshadow primer. No matter how expensive or luxurious, every single eyeshadow i ever tried creased terribly on my lids within 30 minutes. My oily skin could be one of culprits or even the shape or my eyes, but i know friends with dryer or tighter lids who experienced the same issue: creasing.

The No.1 eyeshadow primer that i recommend to everyone is the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Potion. Lasts months, they changed the packaging to a more user friendly tube and keeps any color smooth for hours to come. Pictured is the Sin version – still in the old tube because i am a hoarder and bulk buy – a beautiful shimmery champagne shade, that doubles as highlighter too.

Next, the Benefit Stay Don’t Stray is very useful if you are in a rush: works excellent as an eye primer and also conceals the dark circles. Adding some YSL Touche Eclat or Bobbi Brown Eye Brightener to illuminate, this primer will help prevent those aging makeup creases that form under the eye. They drive me nuts!

For the sensitive eyes, the new Clinique All About Shadow Primer For Eyes will keep your look fresh and help the eyeshadow go smoother. I like that it comes in several shades to match all skin colors/ethnicity but when blended will disappear into nothing, leaving just a silky base behind.

How do you fix eyeshadow creasing? xo

I have to say I’ve totally neglected eye primers lately, I’ve just been using a good dose of powder! I did love the Urban Decay one though, must try it again!

You are lucky, no amount of powder would keep my eyeshadow on.

I bought the Urban Decay Primer Potion in the biggest size (I don’t really remember its name) two years ago at a Debenhams in London and I’ve used it for about 6 or 7 months. It was amazeballs! The only thing that I didn’t like about it was the fact that it was too much and I couldn’t use all of it so it became kind of… rotten. It’s hard to explain, but basically the oil from the product separated from the “coloured” creamy part, so I couldn’t use it anymore. Couldn’t buy it anywhere in Romania and even though I travel a lot and I had many occasions to repurchase it, I didn’t for the sake of trying new stuff! 🙂 I ended up buying the Too Faced Shadow Insurance the original version and the candle light version (which doubles as a highlighter too) and I have a brand new, unopened Smashbox eyelid primer waiting for me in the “stock” drawer. Heard many negative reviews for the Benefit Stay Don’t Stray primer, yours is the first positive one! Gonna try it on my own next time! 😀

Ooh you will love the Smashbox primer, had it a while ago and it’s fantastic. Wonder what happened to the UD primer, mine can last a year even…maybe it was too hot. Have you tried to shaken it?

Suppose everybody is different, I liked the Benefit one and worked grand for me.

Surprisingly enough, despite my oily skin, I haven’t used an eye primer in a long, long time. My go to foundation, Revlon Colorstay, works well enough, though definitely not as well as a proper primer. Must get my hands on Urban Decay Primer Potion again methinks!
