Getting Back in Shape: Daily Food Supplements

Viviscal Maximum Strenght Review Co-Enzyme Q10 Review
Supplements are something i strongly believe in when it comes to health and getting back in shape after an illness or in my case, after pregnancy. I find that my diet isn’t diverse enough, especially in winter time and i need to get my extra nutrients in the form of capsules. I am obviously no expert or have any medical or nutritional background, these are just a few things that worked for me in the past and i am sharing my own personal experience.

The All Round Multi Vitamin – Pharmaton

From all multivitamin brands ive tried, i still find that Pharmaton is the most complete and has an optimal strength for my needs. It contains all the eight B Vitamins – great for energy release, mood, skin and nails and keeping your mind sharp. The Iron and Ginseng content is brilliant against tiredness and helps with energy levels – which after my baby’s nightly feeds is very welcomed. Vitamin D and Calcium great for bones and teeth, Vitamin A always gets my skin and hair in top shape.

I got my bottle in McCabes Pharmacy, its currently on 50% off sale so it worked out at about €20 for the three months supply.

The Antioxidant – Pharma Nord Co-Enzyme Q10*

Co-Enzyme Q10 its a great overall antioxidant, brilliant for normal heart function and energy release, however im actually taking it for my teeth and gums. I have sensitive gums that bleed easily, so after a bit of research i found that CoQ10 helps strengthen the gums and prevent periodontal disease. The Pharma Nord version of CoQ10 contains added Vitamin C for better absorption and helps reduce tiredness and fatigue.

The Fat Burner – Pharma Nord CLA 24/7*

I have talked about the Pharma Nord CLA 24/7 in a previous post (read here), its basically a weight loss supplement that helps your muscles metabolize fat better when exercising. I find it brilliant for toning up my flabby tummy and getting more out of my exercise routine.

The Healthy Hair Grower – Viviscal Maximum Strenght*

Its a well known fact that during pregnancy your hair will be in the best shape possible: voluminous, thick and luscious. After its a whole different story, hair loss will happen after approximately 12 weeks so im trying to minimize it with the Viviscal supplement.

Viviscal is the best hair growth supplement, it contains the marine protein complex AminoMar C, alongside Biotin, Zinc, Vitamin C, Niacin and Iron and its proven to help maintain and promote hair growth after a six month course. If its good enough for the Victoria Secret Angels, its good enough for me!

What supplements are you taking? Do you believe in them working?

I just take my prenatals, magnesium against cramps and Omega 3.
As physician I have to advise caution when taking too much, especially multivitamins have been proven to do more damage than good in the past, and even though that research is already a few years old the highly popular “smoker vitamins” you could get in the 90s would actually increase the risk of lung cancer when taken.
So aim for a balanced diet, especially when it comes to vitamins and check in with your physician before taking anything in the long run!
The safest way to make sure you don’t get a deficiency when breastfeeding after delivery would be to keep taking your prenatals.

I know what you are saying, ive read somewhere that most vitamins just make an expensive pee as we just flush them out.

However, my diet is not as variate as i would like too and i did find that supplementing for a limited time helps my energy levels and overall wellbeing. I tend to take them during spring time and autumn for a boost.

I am not really good at taking care of myself. I hardly take supplements and I get quite easily. If I can remember I take multivitamin, but that’t about it. Since spring is coming, I should start taking antioxidants, as I am always tired in spring! I have my doubts about these fat burner pills, do they really work and make difference?

My Consultant gave me a long list of supplements to take alongside my medications because I’m battling chronic Lyme Disease & M.E. They are so expensive but will hopefully help my recovery. I have huge problems with absorption so have had IV vitamin & mineral infusions in the past, which go directly into the bloodstream and really made a big difference but that was in Germany, where they were more readily available and affordable.

I hope you & your little Princess are doing well! xx

I saw Pharmaton was on sale but I’ve never tried it but my fiancé used it through college and found it really good so I think I’ll stock up for us while the price is right!
