Best Haircare Products for Blonde Hair
As anyone with bleached blonde hair knows, keeping the color fresh and non brassy its a full time job. We are talking strengthening the hair after the bleaching process, fighting breakage and maintaining a ‘clean’ shiny blonde. Blondes may have more fun, but they certainly work harder to maintain their hair healthy and in good condition.
I have been a blonde now for about seven years and one thing that i always get praise on is the condition of my hair. I never had problems growing my hair long, never had to resort to hair extensions or tapes. My ends are soft and smooth and the color tends to look fresh without monthly salon appointments. Boy do i work on my hair routine though to keep my hair in this condition. I invested in the best hair products i can afford and developed a good weekly hair routine.
We are talking toning, hydration and strengthening the hair. I will group everything into product categories, you definitely don’t need everything im listing. However you might discover some good products to add into routine.
Here are a few of my favorite hair products that i tried and would repurchase over and over again.
Fighting the Brassiness. Purple Shampoo once a week.
Kerastase Blond Absolu Range
The Blond Absolu range is the first one of its kind withing the Kerastase brand. It’s formulated to care for the over processed hair and completely tone and remove brassiness. With neutralizing and caring properties, this collection aims to preserve the look of every blonde.
Immediate Anti-Brass Action: get 8 times more luminous hair with their first purple shampoo and hair mask to treat all your brassy and yellowing concerns.
Instant Fiber Care: Hair becomes 11 times more conditioned with use of the fortifying shampoo and conditioner.
Blond Absolu maintains and perfects cool tones through deep ultra-violet neutralizers, hydrates and fortifies the hair fiber, and illuminates hair from within.
L’Oreal Magnesium Silver Shampoo
Believe the hype, the L’oreal Silver Shampoo deserves every bit of its cult following. Probably my most repurchased and loved purple shampoo that i have ever used. I usually wash my hair first with a normal shampoo and then tone with the L’Oreal purple shampoo. I generally leave it on my hair for about 20 minutes to get rid of any yellow or brassy tone. It can be a tiny bit drying so make sure you follow up with a conditioner or hydrating mask.
L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Vitamino CC Cream
The L’oreal Blonde Color Corrector has been recommended to me by my hair colorist and it didn’t disappoint. Its anti brassiness cream that i mix with my conditioner, mask or Smartbond treatment for a quick toning and hydration boost. You literally need a tiny amount of product and it banishes yellow tones in as quick as five minutes. A good alternative to purple shampoo if you don’t like using them.
Color Wow Dream Filter
The Dream Filter has been a recent discovery, i have started to incorporate it in my routine in the last three months. It is a leave in spray, it needs to be spritzed into the dry hair before washing. It will help prevent water minerals build up that sometimes can give a green tint to the hair. The color will look fresher and cleaner for longer and it will brighten up highlights. I cant be without it now!
Hair Bond Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner. Once a week.
Olaplex No4 and No5 Shampoo and Conditioner
I started using the Olaplex Shampoo and Conditioner after i got my full head of highlights back a few months ago. Previous to that i had a lot of my natural root as i was having a more balayage look. When i had my natural hair i hated the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner. It felt too rich and my roots were looking as if there was still a residue left behind. Well, as soon as i bleached my hair again close to the root i fell in love with the Olaplex duo. If your hair is over processed and damaged, the Olaplex is for you. Only a tiny amount is needed to clean your hair and make a decent froth. It leaves the hair nourished, soft and frizz free. Its very expensive, however a bottle lasts months because so little is needed. Ive been using it once a week for the last three months and im barely half way.
Hair Strengthening Treatments. After each wash, alternating the treatment.
L’Oreal Smartbond Step 3
I was first introduced to Smartbond in the salon, when the colorist asked me if i would like some mixed in with my bleach to minimize breakage and damage. Smartbond Step 3 Conditioner is a hair strengthening system that has been specially developed to protect bonds while colouring, highlighting and straightening.
Promoting softer, stronger and shinier-looking locks post-processing, the fortifying formula follows the in-salon treatment to maintain strength and condition of hair at home. Helping to protect colour and prevent damage during the colouring process, the bond-strengthening conditioner will leave the hair fibre feeling stronger and healthier.
I use it once a week instead of a conditioner. I generally mix a bit of the Loreal Blonde Correcting cream so i can minimize brassiness and nourish my hair at the same time.
Pureology Superfood Strenght Cure Hair Mask
I alternate the Pureology Superfood Strenght Cure mask with the Smartbond Step 3. I usually wash my hair, towel dry and then apply the mask and leave it on for an hour or so whilst im doing house chores.
Catering specifically for dry, damaged hair, the Pureology Strength Cure Superfood Treatment works to restore radiant, healthy-looking locks from root to tip. Fortified with powerful superfoods, the regenerating treatment targets breakage and split ends. It effectively coats each strand for a velvety soft, smooth finish. Antioxidant-rich Goji Berry Extract is blended with Olive Oil to promote overall hair health and shine.
Leave In Treatments
Moroccan Oil Light Treatment
I tried a lot of hair oils, however i always go back to the Moroccan Oil Light. It suits my hair so much. Moroccan Oil Treatment Light is specifically formulated for the delicate needs of fine and light-coloured (including white) hair.
Infused with antioxidant-rich argan oil, strengthening proteins and shine-enhancing vitamins, this completely transformative treatment de tangles, speeds up drying time and boosts shine – leaving hair smooth, manageable and nourished with each use.
I add a two pumps on the wet hair, before hairdrying. It leaves my hair soft, easy to de-tangle and shiny. Plus the fragrance is so good.
Kerastase Nutritive 8H Magic Night Serum
The Kerastase 8H Night cream has been a god sent during the winter months. Its basically a moisturizer for your hair that has to be applied at bed time. I use almost every night on the ends of my hair. Its not greasy, softens the hair instantly and smells incredible.
Working through the night while you sleep, the non-greasy hair serum delivers intensive overnight nourishment. Blending Iris Root extract with a cocktail of five essential vitamins to leave hair feeling lightweight and luxuriously nourished. The intensive overnight treatment has a beautiful fragrance designed to develop while you sleep. No need to rinse out in the morning.
Living Proof Perfect Day Dry Shampoo
The best dry shampoo i have ever tried so far! The Living Proof Perfect Day Dry Shampoo not only freshens up but actually cleans your hair. My hair is quite fine and gets oily quickly, so i never get that ‘second day hair’ feeling. I generally spritz a few puffs to my roots on day two for more volume and texture. Its meant to be spritzed in sections at the roots, left for 1 minute and then massaged in. I never had volume and texture before like i have with the Living Proof.
